Understanding Mental Health article

Mental health pertains to a health condition when a person is exhibiting signs and symptoms of distress due to the presence of stressful event that will need medical attention. Patients that are suffering from mental illness can be undergoing poor family background that is a factor that triggered her low self esteem as well as low self-worth. A person that is suffering from mental illness will have an ineffective cognition pattern by having coherent mental functioning by answering the question logically without slurred speech or disorganized thoughts and she is conversant with the attending psychiatrist while undergoing the process of interview.
As an analysis, the sociology of having a mental disorder can be considered as a potential for possessing agitated behavior because of her having a sense of low-self esteem that is one of the main concern by the attending nurse. As a nursing consideration, patients that are having a depressed mood has a disturbance to their self-esteem as well as having an alterations with their self concept that can bring concern to her over all physical wellness. Basing from the assessment for patients that are experiencing mood disorders shows that they are having a low energy level that is why some patients such as Janet finds a substance for her to create a temporary outlet of her emotions that are distressed.

Management for people with mental health problems

It is important for prioritizing the patient's self esteem because these is one of the most reliable factors that is causing a patient to increase their unusual perception of violence against others or violence against themselves. Safety is the number one priority because all patients that are diagnosed for having an impaired social isolation can have the risk for hurting anybody including themselves. The patients that are experiencing mental problems should be placed in a room where there is a complete surveillance to her by any of the members of the health care team because the rationale is to monitor her emotional status at all times and this should be done round the clock or 24 hours a day. Dietary intake is another important event because her appetite can be influenced by her low self-esteem because the rationale for this nursing care plan is to provide the basic daily nutritional requirements to maintain her healthy physical well-being. For patients like Janet medication is another important factor to improve the distressed or imbalanced hormones that is causing unusual for her by isolating herself from socialization as a rationale for the medication administration. 


As an evaluation for patients that are suffering from mental illness, determining the effectiveness of the monitoring plan for Janet if she has shown any signs of emotional disturbance and this will be a successful evaluation for committing to continue vigilance for the patient to prevent injuries. Basing from the goal of providing vigilance to the patient, the health care members' goal for enhancing the patient's safety will be successful if they have successfully removed any sharp objects that will increase the patient's aggressive behavior for producing harm against her own self. Successful evaluation can also be justified if her daily nutritional requirements have been accomplished when she has consumed her regular meals; however, if Janet did not at consume her regular meals indicates that the goal was partially met. On the other hand, it is also considered as a successful intervention if the patient has successfully took their oral medication without any signs of mouth pocketing, but if she still managed to resist her medication will signify that the goals have failed and it is needed to review the process of goal setting. During the process of evaluation, the attending health care provider should review all the nursing process that has been provided for the patients to confirm all nursing care that has been successfully implemented and to identify necessary actions that have failed to be rendered.


If the patient is having a potential for self directed violence, the nurse should always maintain a secured environment by removing all kinds of possible weapons that will aid for the self-abuse because the rationale is to decrease the availability of harm. Always establish basic rapport with the patient at all times in order to gain her trust and to establish calm and positive environment that will block their thoughts of killing their own lives. Assess the seriousness of the suicide plan such as the method, availability, specificity, and lethality because the rationale is to determine the potentiality of success for the plan of care. Reinforce the patient the importance of having a valuable life because the rationale for this action is to confront her thoughts and desire of inflicting harm to herself. Discussion with the patient regarding the efforts on how to deal with past cries or problems that confronted her is beneficial because the rationale for this intervention is to reaffirms their ability to cope and to indentify alternative resources that can relieve her feelings of anxiety in order not to think the option of killing their own self. Pertaining to the patient's perception that was being shifted to think of alternative resources to alleviate distressful emotional behavior makes the goal to be met successfully because she is no longer having thoughts of resorting to having a self directed injury or suicidal thoughts. Goals will not be met if the patient will still shows signs and symptoms of having the potential for self directed violence against others and against their own lives and this is a situation that needs a comprehensive review to determine what part of the nursing diagnosis that have failed during the process of providing therapeutic intervention to the patient.

Precautionary measures

It has been learned from the study that attending clients that are suffering from serious medical disorders are more complex than those dealing with patients that are suffering from physical diseases because behavioral integrity has a different approach that utilizes character and attitude to solve the patient's concern. The insight that has the most consideration is all about safety precautions because patients that are suffering from mental and emotional problems has always the potential to produce self-directed violence or as the desire to have a plan to kill their self. Furthermore, it has been realized to this study that it is always important to utilize interpersonal relationship with the patient for the reason that it is the most effective tool to gain the patient's trust and cooperation to meet the goals of the medical and nursing intervention process.

Recommendation

Attending health care provider should always undergo self-awareness because this is a requirement for all healthcare professionals that will handle patients with mental health problem for not being manipulated by the patients that will lead to the absorption of anxiety and other related mental disturbances that are causing disabilities. Always pay respect for all patients that are suffering from mental health problems that includes depressed mood and impaired social interaction behaviors because these are patients that are having a severe emotional distress that were unable to cope with their emotional disabilities. Furthermore, in dealing with patients that are severely depressed or anxious, safety is the number one concern because almost all patients always expresses their desire to have the potential to direct violence or harm towards themselves and to others and this consideration should not be tolerated be the health care members.
