Single-parenting in the modern society

Single father or mother as a parent of a child is considered nowadays to be a typical family condition affecting our society's norms. In the modern society, we can observe that there are many single parent fathers who are now taking responsibility for nurturing their child at their home or apartments. Being a single parent such as the only father supporter for his child is no longer considered as a taboo for the reason that it is now becoming a family trend that is causing normal issue in the society. Before, single parenting is considered as a taboo and causes scandalous practices in previous conservative societies

Definition

Single parent refers to a condition when one of the two parents is the only person who is providing the child or children with the support they need in order to survive. As a single parent, they provide all essential needs such as food, shelter, clothing, and education to ensure that the child or the children has the means to survive. Giving them the right amount of education is one of the most impressive things that can be given to a certain individual. Single parent is causing a dilemma on the part of the parent who is the sole provider for their child. The reason behind is that they have no other person to rely to but themselves only without the presence of their partner. In this case, they are experiencing the burden of the sole responsible individual to provide all needed care or to face consequences. 

Causes of Single Parenting

There are reasons why such issues are existent in the society such as a single father who is taking care for his son. The first may be the presence of illegitimacy, in which the father may have been the third party. This is the reason why he has to take full responsibility for his child due to a consequence for being as the extra marital partner of a married woman to another man. Another can be attributed with the presence of accident, in which the father's spouse may have been killed in a freak accident. This includes car accidents, storm related accidents, or being killed by a criminal individual. Marital woes is another factor wherein the father decided to separate himself with the mother due to psychological incapacity that made the father to decide to take the child under his custody due to the risk of safety of the mother. 

Challenges of single Parenting

Raising the child alone without the spouse is a challenging issue for the reason that the father may have to consider the following roles and responsibilities in order to keep the well-being of the child in check. This includes securing the future of the child such as being responsible for allowing the child to have him or her educated from grade school up to college for as long as the father can afford to allow their child to complete their educational needs and have a promising career in the future. Having the child in custody until adult is another consideration that needs to be ensured because it is the right of the child to secure their future with the support of their parent or parents. There are legal issues that should be always accustomed because any failure to fulfill the child's need might risk the father for being involved in legal violations.

Redefining challenges

As a single parent, there are many ways to weather against challenges as a sole provider for the child. If the other biological parent of the child is still present, it is always better to seek for support in order to lessen the financial burden for their support. Emotional support is also needed even if the spouse is no longer present to provide their presence to the child. This can be managed when the other parent occasionally visits the child so that the child would not feel neglected at some point. Another is by applying to various social service agencies in order to avail scholarships as well as other financial support from government and non-government organizations in order to improve the support for the child. In this case, challenges can be eliminated or prevented because there are other support groups that are willing to help the child's needs in the long run.

It is because people are now more open minded due to the factors affecting the situation of the person for experiencing themselves as a single parent. In this manner, the issue contemplating with the functionality of a single parent can be supported by other groups such as government and non-government organizations that are willing to provide support and assistance to the person in need of assistance. Education is always important for each single parent to know all angles of concern and solutions that would help them to promote their household needs as well as their financial welfare.
